EXCAVATION OF SOIL FOR FOUNDATION

Many of us has already learned in our college days that before doing any foundation work excavation is must. In technical term it is also called as earth cutting. But how to do excavation or what to do before excavation, does you know that. Well as a fresher you may be aware of these things. But if you are experienced one you know about it. But then also there little difference left about it. Well let's discuss about that.

As per the drawing reading, the layout plan of foundation should be taken more than the given drawing. If in drawing it is given 2400 x 1800 then for marking you should have to take 2600 x 2000. Because after excavation you should have to place the shuttering for concreting for the footing. But then also the gap you placed is not enough because after excavation by JCB there are lots of error which you cannot identify it but can determine it. And also excavation by JCB is not accurate but it takes less time than manwork.

After excavation by JCB, the manwork is done for it accurate shape and size and most importantly to find out the center of the footing. When all these things are done and the base of the footing is perfectly levelled then the brick soiling or sand filling is done. If the building is of ground floor then brick soiling is okk but if it is of G+4 or G+5 then sand filling is must. Because as a Civil Engineer you all know that bearing capacity of sandy soil is more then that of clay soil.

After brick soiling or sand filling PCC is done of ratio 1:3:6. This PCC makes the base of the foundation strong and above which the RCC work can be done. But the RCC work is done the very next day because if the excavation pit rises water above the PCC level then it becomes very difficult for the workers to work at the site. So the RCC work is done the next day and it becomes smooth and efficient for the workers to work at it. And remember one thing there should be maximum 50mm gaping before placing any footing work. The best idea is to use the cover block of 50mm.

After that foundation the column head is done which is above the footing. We also called it as pedestal column. This varies with size and height. After all these work the back filling is done. And at last the foundation work is over.

MACHINES USED AT CONSTRUCTION SITES

The most commonly used machine at any construction site is JCB where it's technical name is Backhoe. It is the most common and widely used machine in any construction project whether its big or small project. It becomes easier and makes the work faster for the companies at any time of interval.    All other machines such as Transit Mixer, Concrete Mixer, Roller etc are also used in any kind of road project or building project. Transit Mixer is used for large large building projects, bridge projects, some kind of road projects etc. whereas concrete mixer is for small building projects. Roller is used for road project and bridge project for its elevation.  For any building project the most commonly used machines are concrete mixer, transit mixer, concrete pump, bar bending machine, needle vibrator, water pump and many more. All these machinery works make the work easier and faster. Otherwise if the work is done with labourers it will take more time and less efficient ...

How to edit grid systems in Etabs

Okk in the last blog I had discussed about Etabs for beginners. You have got at least some ideas about it. If you have not seen it then click here . But here I am going to discuss how you will edit Grids/Columns in Etabs. As I had said by clicking on "Modify/Show Grid Systems" option a new dialog box appears, their you can edit anything. But you can also do it by different way. On the left side in grid dimensions (plan) you can see that two options are available. One is "Uniform Grid Spacing" and the other is "Custom Grid Spacing". Click on the "Custom Grid Spacing" and you see that Edit Grid Data option is available. Just click on that, and you can edit it as you want by giving the required dimensions in X-axis and Y-axis only. Ok whatever be lets come to the topic. If you have done it like as I have shown earlier then follow those steps. And the one who were new to this blog this is just for that. That's why I underlined with BLUE line an...

Importing AutoCAD into Revit

So today in this blog I am going to explain how I made an AutoCAD 2D plan and then imported it into Revit software. So you read this blog from starting to end, then only you'll understand clearly.  This is all basic and not any crisscross idea or ruthless situation. It's very simple. First you do all the basic steps in AutoCAD, and you know what is that. Going to Format, set up the units and bla, bla, bla. After that making all these set-up you start with the drawing plan. You yourself have created a idea "how my drawing plan will look like" or "how will I make it?" But before going into complex, first you make a simple drawing plan, like this    First you make the lines and after that create the room size and area of your own. You are exclusively expert in that. This is the first and foremost drawing plan you have to make. And the rest you know how to make it. All boundary lines, room shape and size, passage, staircase etc. you know it very well.  Now you g...
