Backfilling

After erection of RE Wall, the next step is to do backfilling. At every stage backfilling is required and also erection of panels is also done. Layer by layer geogrid is given and also geotextile is worn at the side of RE Wall joints. This process continues till the completion of top panels, i.e., RE Wall top.  So what's the use of backfilling? Or why this backfilling is done? To answer such these silly questions are, awkward.
